Subdesk is a new computer interface, where humans and agents work together. Computers are great, but they're still designed around one person sitting in front of one machine, opening applications and operating them directly.

Today, if you want an agent to work on your computer, you have to choose between local and cloud work. Locally, AI can take over the computer in front of you, move your mouse, open your apps, and use your browser. This preserves your state, but interrupts whatever you're doing and hijacks your machine. In the cloud, you can give the agent a blank computer where it can work independently. You stay in control of your own computer, but the agent has none of your files, logins, applications, or context, so you have to explain everything through a chatbox.

This is not how humans and AI should work together.

With Subdesk, the interface is simple. You work normally on your Mac or Windows computer, and Subdesk observes your screen to understand what you're doing. When you want AI to take over a task, you just say, “do this.” Your working state and task — across browser sessions, files, applications, credentials, and context — are mirrored instantly onto the Subdesk, giving your AI a secure, local fork of your computer to continue working.

You can look into the agent's computer at any time from your menu bar and watch it, steer it, teach it, take control, or just let it run. The agent stays signed in, keeps its state between tasks, asks you questions when it needs you, and picks up exactly where it left off.

For the agents and models you already love, Subdesk gives them a dedicated computer connected to yours, while preserving your privacy. And because agents no longer have to fight over the computer in front of you, you can run multiple Subdesks in parallel, with many agents working at once.

As AI takes on more of our work, the way we use computers must change. Subdesk is a universal interface for humans and agents to work together on computers, now available in private beta.
